House Porter

Nestled in the serene Klein Slangkop Private Estate, House Porter is a thoughtfully designed three-bedroom single-family home. The estate’s architectural guidelines, rooted in the Victorian timber beach cottage tradition of the Southern Cape Coast, shaped the design approach. Elements such as the double-pitched roof, dormers, and lean-to structures honor this heritage while framing the home's core principle: connection.

The design fosters connection to the surrounding natural environment, allowing residents to feel immersed in the outdoors without compromising comfort. Expansive openings on the ground floor blend the living spaces with the external landscape, creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living. Additionally, the home encourages connection with the community, emphasizing the importance of shared spaces for socializing and togetherness.

Inside, the open-plan ground floor integrates the living, dining, and kitchen areas, each differentiated by ceiling heights and natural light. The living room extends onto a wrap-around terrace along the public-facing façade, while the dining area transitions to a more intimate, sheltered outdoor zone with a fire pit. Overhead, a canopy of bent stainless steel plates forms a modern verandah, with timber louvres strategically angled to welcome winter sunlight while providing shade in the summer months.

On the upper floor, the main bedroom, with its dormer windows and cozy bay seating, frames picturesque views of Hout Bay’s mountains. Timber cladding on this level adds warmth and texture, complementing the home’s contemporary architectural language.
