De Hoop Hiking Huts

The design for five new hiking huts along the Whale trail in the De Hoop Nature Reserve focuses on providing new, environmentally sensitive accommodation along the popular 55-kilometer trail, known for its remarkable coastal landscapes that attracts visitors seeking a remote, eco-conscious hiking experience. To accommodate growing demand, CapeNature has identified the need to double the daily hiker capacity from 12 to 24 people.

The new hiking huts, strategically located adjacent to the existing facilities, are designed to ensure minimal environmental impact, while offering adaptable and robust construction tailored to diverse site conditions. The design approach emphasizes simplicity, sustainability, and flexibility to integrate seamlessly with the reserve’s natural environment.
