House Basson
The design of this dwelling for a young family focuses on maximizing the spatial potential of a double story dwelling. This is done in a few ways. Firstly, the use of materials speak of an honesty in the architecture. Planters at various positions throughout the building allow greenery to grow onto the facebrick walls and become part of the palette of materials. Also, these planters become a form of natural solar control, minimizing the need for active cooling. All the various functions are placed around a central double volume living area that allows diffused light via a clerestory underneath a seemingly floating roof.
