Located in Ocean View, Cape Town, the Hope Town Community Centre repurposes a small residence into a space for education, skills training, and community gatherings. The design added new educational rooms, a workshop, and bathroom facilities, with a focus on flexible spaces and adaptable circulation to accommodate future needs.

A staircase at the back of the existing building connects the courtyard without disrupting gatherings, while also serving as a transitional element between the old and new structures. The architectural language of the front porch is echoed in the light columns and roof structure of the new rooms, and the courtyard’s threshold can fully open to create seamless indoor-outdoor interaction.
